A mud pack facial
Keeps skin young, soft, and supple,
Or that’s what they say.
It’s National Mud Pack Day. A nice bit of information I read at Holiday Insights is that a mud pack is a good temporary treatment for bee stings.

Confucius would say,
“What’s up with all these sayings?”
If he were alive.
It’s Confucius Day and Rosh Hashanah. When I was young, I used to hear people say, “Confucius say …”, and then say something silly instead of something that Confucius might have actually said.
I’ve always been told,
“There are no stupid questions,
Just stupid answers.”
It’s Ask a Stupid Question Day and National Good Neighbor Day; I think that’s an odd combination. Ask a Stupid Question Day is sometimes celebrated on the last school day of September and National Good Neighbor Day used to be celebrated on the fourth Sunday in September, so I guess it all depends on how one celebrates.
Just had a soda?
Crush the can against your head;
Check how flat it is.
It’s Crush a Can Day and International Rabbit Day. International Rabbit Day is the fourth Saturday in September.
Johnny Appleseed,
Known for planting apple trees,
Was born on this day.
It’s Johnny Appleseed Day and Native American Day . Johnny Appleseed Day could also be March 11 (the disputed day of John Chapman’s death), and Native American Day is celebrated on the fourth Friday of the month.
Read a comic book,
Or find a comic online,
Or in a paper.
It’s National Comic Book Day. I didn’t really read comic books as a child (unless you count MAD magazine). But I don’t think they rot the mind. And I’ve heard that Stan Lee purposefully used difficult words so that the kids that read his comics would learn something. Like I mentioned in my haiku, there are a lot of comics online. A good place to find webcomics is Top Web Comics, or type ‘comics’ in to your favorite search engine. I also have some listed in my sidebar (Webcomics and Stories).
Cherries Jubilee:
Just take cherry pie filling,
Cognac, and ice cream.
It’s National Cherries Jubilee Day. To quote the Holiday Insights page, “Cherries Jubilee is easy to make. All you need is a can of cherry pie filling, some cognac (or brandy) and vanilla ice cream.”
A game of checkers
Or is that the dog Checkers?
Nixon’s daughters’ dog.
It’s Checkers Day, Dog in Politics Day, Classical Music Month, and National Piano Month. On this date, in 1952, Richard Nixon gave a speech; in it, he referenced his daughters’ dog Checkers.
It’s a great day to
Appreciate elephants,
But not oliphants.
It’s Business Women’s Day, and Elephant Appreciation Day. (I’m using oliphant in a Tolkien sense.)
I just wanted to do a quick post. I know a lot of people want to know more about the politicians they are going to vote for, but they don’t know were to look for unbiased information (especially on the web). So, I wanted to let everyone know about Vote Smart. It has a lot of information and allows you to customize it to your region.
