Celebrate your mutt.
But not muttonchops, unless
Your doggy has them.
Today is Mutt’s Day. Most people think of dogs when they think of mutts, but I also think of Americans. We are considered the melting pot. I know that on my mom’s side I’m German, both high and low; just don’t ask me what that means. I know it was a controversy when my grandparents were getting married, but I’m not close enough to that controversy to fully understand it. My dad’s side probably has some German, too; so, that would make me a German mutt. ;) There is some speculation of several minority groups, but I haven’t heard any proof of it. Either way, it wouldn’t really effect who I am.

Lord, please protect me,
Forgive my sins and guard me,
And give me wisdom.*
“Lord — Protect my family and me. Forgive me my sins, and help me guard against pride and despair. Give me the wisdom to do what is right and just. And make me an instrument of your will.” This is reportedly the prayer left at the Western Wall by one of the presidential candidates. It’s a simple prayer; straight-forward and to the point. I wondered how the paper got the prayer and how they know it was his; I’m not sure that it should have been printed in the first place. There is speculation about whether or not his people gave a copy to the press. If they did, I can’t say that I support that decision, and I would be disappointed, but not so much so as to deride the whole campaign. But, it seems to me that it’s unlikely that they did. The newspaper that printed it is said to have said they had permission, but they now say they didn’t. I think that if there was proof that his people gave permission, it would have been produced. This isn’t to say that someone couldn’t have given, but that if permission were given, then the paper should have a copy of that and be able to produce it. The fact that they can’t produce evidence lends weight to the position that he didn’t give permission.
I doubt this controversy is over yet, and there are several ways it could go. I can see his opposition using this against him even if proof is never provided that he wanted it to be published. And it would definitely be damaging to his campaign if proof does surface. But, I think it’s too soon to know how it will turn out yet.
*I know this isn’t the exact prayer, but I had to take creative liberties to make it into a haiku.

Have fruit-topped cheesecake,
Or have it plain, if you like.
Just go grab a slice.
Today is National Cheesecake Day and Father-in-Law Day. I must admit, I haven’t had real cheesecake in a long time. I usually have a cream cheese and whipped topping mixture in a graham cracker crust. Sometimes I’ll have fruit on top, sometimes not. It’s easy to take a block of cream cheese and a tub of whipped topping and mix it together with some sugar and lemon juice; and then pile it into a graham cracker crust.

Have some lasagna,
But beware that cat Garfield,
Or he’ll take it all.
Today is National Lasagna Day. Of course, I think of that fat cartoon cat when I hear lasagna. I used to love watching “Garfield and Friends” as a kid. I loved the periodic use of classical music in it; that was always fun.

It melts in my hand.
It comes coated with candy.
It makes a good drink.
Today is National Milk Chocolate Day. I’m a choco-holic. I like rich, sweet, melty chocolate; chocolate-covered cherries, chocolate-covered peanuts, just about anything chocolate.

You want me to what?
To take my pants for a walk?
Why is that again?
Today is Parent’s Day and Take Your Pants for a Walk Day. It sounds like it should be a fun day to hang out and take a walk; although, it may be a bit warm for wearing pants.

It’s all or nothing.
It’s the time to go for broke.
Take it or leave it.
Aunts and uncles are
Great people to hang out with,
Or take to events.
Today is All or Nothing Day and Aunt and Uncle Day. It’s a day for extremes and a day for extended family. I think it’s interesting that cousins day was a couple days ago and today is a day to celebrate their parents. It makes me wonder if there is an extended family day, too.

Culinarian;
Or more commonly known as,
A person who cooks.
Go thread the needle.
Walk the line between two side,
Or just start sewing.
Today is Culinarians Day and Threading the Needle Day. It occurs to me that today is a vaguely domestic day. Cooking and sewing (and settling arguments) happen a lot at home.

Celebrate Cousins
And remember Emilia
Earhart on this day.
Today is Cousins Day and Emilia Earhart Day. For anyone who doesn’t know, Emilia Earhart was a pioneer in aviation who disappeared on an attempted flight around the world.
